AVC Executive Meeting ahead of General Assembly

Bangkok, Thailand, November 14, 2017 – The AVC Executive Committee Meeting was held on Tuesday at the Centara Grand Hotel at CentralWorld Bangkok to review and prepare for the 22nd AVC General Assembly the following day.

AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser chaired the meeting, which was attended by FIVB President Dr Ary Graca as the guest of honour. Also in attendance in the Tuesday’s meeting were FIVB and AVC Honorary Life President Mr Wei Jizhong, AVC Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamza Alfailakawi, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President of Western Zone Mr Ibrahim Abdul Malik Mohammed, Dr Davarzani, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President of Central Zone, Mr Cai Yi, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President of Eastern Zone, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President of Southeastern Zone Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President of Oceania Zone Mr Craig Carragher, E/C and B/A member Mrs Fong S.V. Alice Oliver and AVC General Manager Dr Rueangsak Siriphol.

In his opening address, Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser thanked all federations for their kind supports to AVC and Thailand, where the AVC Headquarters is located.

Dr Ary Graca has praised significant development of the AVC, saying in his speech that he has “no doubt” about future volleyball in Asia. “We have a lot of things to do in Asia in the near future. We have plans and we have to think about the future. Present is TV, but future will be Internet. We have partners and sponsors and we have to work out successfully on them,” the FIVB President started.

“The Thailand Volleyball Association is No.1 association which has contacted the FIVB most. The TVA have given the FIVB great supports. During the AVC General Assembly on Wednesday, I hope all federations will open their minds for the future. We give you a chance to listen and we just hope for the best that you will make a bigger step to progress to a brighter future,” he added.

The current situation and controversial issues of some National Federations comprising India, the Philippines, American Samoa and Kuwait were raised by Mr Wei Jizhong for discussion. However, the air of doubts on those controversies has been cleared.

After that, all AVC Zonal Executive Vice Presidents reported on activities and replacement of AVC Board of Administration who represent their respective zones, while Mr Essa Hamza kept the meeting attendants updated about the financial situation of AVC from 2016 until now.

The 2018-2019 AVC Activity Calendar was reported by Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, who also informed the meeting about updated information of the 22nd AVC General Assembly.

“Representatives from a total of 46 federations and 21 proxies have already confirmed their participation in the Assembly on Wednesday, totalling 67 altogether. However, due to suspensions of some federations, Kuwait and the Philippines will be attending the Assembly as Observers, while India cannot join the meeting. A total of 62 federations have eventually been confirmed for the Assembly,” Shanrit said.

On Wednesday, registration for the 22nd AVC General Assembly will take place from 8.30am-9am. The Opening Ceremony is due to be held from 9am, followed by four sessions of the meeting. The Thai Touch Dinner Party for all delegates hosted by the TVA will be held from 6pm.
