AVC Men’s U23 Championship/ Technical Meeting Gets off the Ground
The technical meeting of “SMM 2nd Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship” was held in Ardabil with the presence of Dr. Davarzani, the Deputy of Youth and Sports Ministry of Iran as well as the president of Iran Volleyball Federation who delivered the opening speech asking everyone to have a nice stay in their visit to the historic city of Ardabil. Some central points were then added by Mr. Derakhshandeh, the CC President and the Technical Delegate and some new changes in AVC protocol was reminded by Mr. Songsak Chareonpong, the Referee delegate.
The team managers, Head Coach and the doctor of eleven participating teams of China, Japan, Iran, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Chinese Taipei, Australia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia took part in this tournament.
The Local Timetable of Day 1, Monday, May 1 is as follows:
10:00: Uzbekistan v. Kazakhstan
12:30: Malaysia v. Australia
15:00: Japan v. Sri Lanka
17:30: Iran v. Pakistan
Noteworthy to add that the preliminary round will be held into four pools (three three-team pools and one two-team pool) that are as follows:
A: Iran & Pakistan
B: Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan
C: China, Australia, Malaysia
D: Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka
The preliminary round of Asian Volleyball Championship will be From Monday to Wednesday on May 1-3 with ten matches.
Iran team that is in pool A of the preliminary round has already saved a birth to the quarterfinal with the only match of Monday against Pakistan.
In the second round, the first two teams of preliminary round will be divided in pools E & F to fight for the first eight places while the three teams from the third place of each table (except from one pool) will fight for 9th to 11th place. On Saturday, May 6, all the participating teams will rest and will then continue their rivalry the day after up to Tuesday, 9 May. The first two teams will qualify for world championship.
