FIVB World Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship
The 3rd world Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship will take place on August 18-27 in Cairo and Iranian U23 men is taking the experience for the third time.
Twelve teams will participate in this tournament, ten of which were selected through continental qualification. The Asian Qualification took place on May in Ardabil where Iran and Japan earned the berth for world championship.
China, Asian’s NO. 5 and the world’s NO.17 achieved the wild card from FIVB as the third Asian team.

A Snapshot of the last Edition
Holding U23 championship for both men and women category was first devised by FIVB since 2013 to further develop and improve volleyball.
The first year was just held at world level and the teams were selected by FIVB according to their rankings, Iran and Australia were the representatives of Asia. The tournament started to go through the qualification process since 2015. Iran claimed the 5th in the first edition hosted in Brazil.
The twelve participating teams were ranked as Brazil, Serbia, Russia, Bulgaria, Iran, Venezuela, Argentina, Tunisia, Egypt, Australia, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.
The first Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship that was regarded as the qualification process for the second edition of world championship was held in Myanmar in 2015. Iran and South Korea conquered the top two teams of Asia as the champion and vice-champion.
The 2nd world edition took place in Emirates where Russia, Turkey, and Italy gained the top three teams. Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Iran, South Korea, Egypt, Tunisia, Mexico, and Emirates stood on the next places from four to twelve.
Six Permanent Poles
The national team of Iran along with Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, and Russia has been present in all three editions of U23 championship. It means that Iran is the only Asian teams participated in all three editions showing high volleyball in this age group.
The national Men’s U23 team of Iran is taking part in this tournament by the mentoring of Juan Cichello. The U23 men of Iran had also participated in Asian Sr. men’s Volleyball Championship in Indonesia before departing to Cairo and claimed the 5th.
