A Snapshot at 2018 World Championship
The Final round of Asian qualification tournament for 2018 Men’s World Championship in pool A will start on August 10-14 in Ardabil, Iran. The national volleyball player of Iran are trying their best to achieve their 6th qualification ticket.
The 19th World Men’s Championship will set up on September 10-30 with 24 participating teams in Italy & Bulgaria.
The second round of qualification that is the final round will be held in two pools of A and B respectively in Iran and Australia. Two top teams will qualify for the world championship.
Iran will host it in pool A in Ardabil from 10-14 August with ten matches. Five participating teams of Iran, Qatar, China, Korea, and Kazakhstan will fight for two remaining ticket.
In pool B, the host Australia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and New Zealand competed on July 12-16 in Canberra where the host and Japan secured the berth for world championship.
The national volleyball team of Iran started their trainings under the supervision of Igor Kolakovic on Saturday, July 8.
Iran & His Last Five World Experiences
The national volleyball team of Iran have already participated in five editions of world championship. The first presence of Iran in Men’s Volleyball Championship occurred before the Islamic Revolution in Bulgaria before the 7th World Championship took place in 1970. Iran hold 11 matches at that time which resulted in 4 wins and 7 losses. The national volleyball team of Iran finished 21st. It took 18 years for the second presence that was realized in 1998 Japan. Iran finished 19th with three losses recorded in the preliminary round. The 16th World Championship made the third world experience of Iran in 2006 when Iran finished 21st with five losses in row. Four years later in 2010 along with the 17th world Championship in Italy, Iran finished 21st with one single victory against Japan. The late Hossein Madani was the head coach of Iran then.
Conquering the 7th place of world ranking, Iran made an acceptable record in 2014 by finishing 6th in Poland in their fifth presence.
24 teams in 19th World Championship
The world’s best 24 teams will compete in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Italy-Bulgaria 2018, which takes place from September 10 to 30 2018. As per the FIVB sports regulations, the number of spots awarded by the FIVB for each Confederation for the next World Championships is as follows:

CAVB Africa 3
CEV Europe Italy & Bulgaria (hosts) + 8
CSV South America 2
NORCECA North, Caribbean and Central America 5
The tournament will see the participation of two teams from South America, four from Asia, 10 (including the hosts and defending champions Poland) from Europe, three from Africa and five from the North, Central America and Caribbean. A total of 103 matches will be played over the 18-day tournament.
The 24 teams will be spread across four pools of six teams playing in a round-robin system with the top four teams advancing to a second round of preliminary matches featuring two pools of eight teams playing in four cities.
The top three teams from each second-round pool will qualify to the third round, where the six teams will be split into two pools, from which the top two teams from each pool will then advance to the semifinals and finals with the third ranked teams in the third round pools also playing off for fifth place.
