Gas Al-Janoob Keeps Fifth-Place Hopes Alive
Gas Al-Janoob (Iraq) Triumphs Over Afghan Opponent in First Match of Sixth Day of Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship
Gas Al-Janoob (Iraq) emerged victorious in the first match of the sixth day of the 26th Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship, defeating their Afghan opponent and keeping their hopes alive for a fifth-place finish.
According to the Communications Department of the Volleyball Federation, the sixth day of the 26th Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship continued today (Friday, September 13) with four matches at Shahdab Yazd’s stadium.
Gas Al-Janoub (Iraq) and Kam Air (Afghanistan), both having faced defeats in the knockout stage, competed against each other at 11 AM in the first match of the day. The Iraqi team won decisively with scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-18, and will compete against the winner of the next match for the fifth place tomorrow.
Gas Al-Janoob (Iraq) had previously defeated Al-Rayyan in the preliminary stage but faced two losses against Foolad Sirjan and Kam Air. In the quarter-finals, they were defeated by Shahdab Yazd, preventing them from advancing to the top four.
Kam Air (Afghanistan) experienced two losses against Foolad Sirjan and Al-Rayyan Qatar in the preliminary stage but managed to defeat Gas Al-Janoob in their third match. In the quarter-finals, they were defeated by the representative from Kazakhstan, leading them to compete for the fifth to eighth places.
In the first set of this match, Mohebi’s player and the Iraqi team had a close competition, but the Iraqis took the lead in scoring towards the end and won the set 25-22.
In the second set, the Iraqi team had a strong defense against the Afghan attacks and capitalized on their opponent’s weak defense with flawless serves, ultimately winning the set 25-17.
In the early minutes of the third set, Gas Al-Janoob Iraq maintained a two to three-point lead over their opponent. Although Afghanistan managed to close the gap midway through the set, their efforts were not enough, and the Iraqi team won the set 25-18 in a close competition.
As a result, the Iraqi team will compete for the fifth place tomorrow against the winner of the match between Sporting Club (Kuwait) and Al-Rayyan Sports Club (Qatar). Meanwhile, Kam Air Afghanistan will compete for the seventh place in the continuation of the tournament.
The match was officiated by Alireza Gharib and Ebrahim Firoozi from Iran as the first and second referees, respectively, and was held with around 50 spectators at Shahdab Yazd’s stadium.
