Host change and Asian Men’s U20 championship time
The Asian Volleyball Confederation has recently announced a change in the host and timing of the 2024 Asian Under-20 Men’s Championship. The new host and schedule will be implemented, and the previous arrangement will be nullified. The modification, which has been decided upon after careful consideration and deliberation, will significantly impact the organisation and preparation of the event. It is essential for all stakeholders to be aware of the change and to make the necessary adjustments to their plans and strategies.
On Monday, January 15, the Asian Volleyball Confederation conducted an extraordinary meeting held entirely online. Various members, including Dr. Mohammad Reza Davarzani, a confederation board member, attended the meeting. This virtual meeting enabled the members to participate from multiple locations without travelling, which helped reduce logistical costs. The online platform also allowed for efficient communication and collaboration among the attendees. Overall, the virtual meeting was a success, and it demonstrated the potential of modern technology to facilitate communication and cooperation among members of a large organisation.
During the meeting, one of the critical themes of discussion was the decision made by China Taipei to withdraw from hosting the 2024 Asian Youth Championships. The reason behind the withdrawal was China’s objection, on political grounds, to its ability to participate in the competition. Furthermore, the significance of being selected for the World Youth Championship was underscored as a topic of relevance.
The 22nd Asian Boy Under-20 Championship volleyball tournament was initially scheduled for June 21 to August 28 in Taipei, China. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the tournament had to be relocated. The Asian Confederation announced that the tournament’s new host would be Surabaya in Indonesia.
During the tournament, a modification of three days was implemented, leading to the announcement of a new schedule. The updated calendar indicated that the competition would occur from the 2nd to the 31st of August, with the previous dates being July 23rd to 30th.
In a letter to member federations, AVC set January 21 as the deadline for teams to opt out without penalty due to host country change.
