Iranian Adolescent’s Volleyball Tournament Targeting “Volleyball Your Way”
The second edition of Iranian Adolescent’s Mini-Volleyball Tournament lasted for seven days in Ramsar where 155 participating teams competed to keep the pulse of new volleyball generation. This mini-volleyball tournament began on November, 8 in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Along with ‘Volleyball Your Way’, one of the main purposes to run such tournaments in Iran is to spot the talents for five years later – 2021 – when the new generations of national team have to be kept in form. Over 700 athletes applied to take part in this festival that is rather a well-tried success. The tournament ran for three days in boys’ category in which 82 teams attended and after 146 overall matches, Golastan, Mazandaran, Kashan, and Guilan recorded their names as the top four teams. Seventy-five players were chosen to keep their exercises going in their zonal camps running once every three months. The final national boys are to be selected among them.
In girls’ category, seventy-three teams competed within 16 groups and after holding 164 matches, the top three ranks entitled Isfahan Barkhar, Isfahan Khomeini Shahr, and Kerman Shahr-e Babak. The MVP were referred to the talent-finding committee for further trainings.
Dr. Mohammad Reza Davarzani, the President of Iran Volleyball federation along with the Serbian head coach of women, Majda Cicic, members of talent-finding committee from 31 provinces of Iran were all present in the closing ceremony.
President Davarzani emphasized on the importance of finding talents from all over Iran. This is why he moved to Ramsar to witness the evaluations on site. He also praised the contributions of all the official members.
