Shahdab Yazd Starts Strong with Victory Over Contender
Shahdab Yazd volleyball team could beat Indonesian representative in their first match of the 2024 Asian Men’s Club Championship, considered as an early final.
According to the Volleyball Federation’s Communications Department, the 26th Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship kicked off today (Sunday, September 8) at the 6,000-seat Shahidieh Hall in Yazd.
In the third match of the opening day, Shahdab Yazd faced Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi, one of the tournament’s contenders, at 17:20 and emerged victorious with a 3-1 win.
Shahdab Yazd lost the third set 25-22 but won the first, second, and fourth sets with scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-20, respectively.
This match marked the first official test for Rahman Mohammadi Rad with Shahdab Yazd after taking on the responsibility, and he passed with flying colors.
Shahdab Yazd’s lineup for their first match in the Asian Men’s Club Championship included Ilshan Davoudipour, Amir Ghafour, Morteza Sharifi, Ali Osman Faryad, Masoud Gholami, Erfan Norouzi, and Mohammadreza Moazzen as the libero.
The match was officiated by Fahad Mohammed Al-Awadi from Qatar and Mousa Salim Aziz from Iraq as the first and second referees.
Shahdab Yazd played in front of over 5,000 spectators at Shahidiyeh Hall, which was filled to capacity, reflecting the enthusiastic support for this early final between two championship contenders.
Additionally, around 550 female spectators attended to watch and cheer for Yazd’s favorite team, marking their first presence at Shahidiyeh Indoor Stadium for international competitions.
The President of the Volleyball Federation also chose to sit among the spectators rather than in the VIP section, watching Shahdab Yazd’s first match alongside the fans.
Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi has made significant investments for a strong presence in this competition, including signing Earvin Ngapeth and Jean Patry from the French national team, two of the world’s most renowned volleyball stars.
In 2023, this team achieved runner-up positions in both the Indonesian Volleyball Premier League (Proliga) and the Asian Men’s Club Championship.
