Teams Heat Up in Rival for Gold Medal in Main Draw
The top teams in the main draw seek to get off to a strong start as the quest for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Kish Island 3-Star 2017 gold medal begins on Thursday, February 16.
The main draw provides for a field of 32 teams to compete in a single elimination format, making each match victory count to get to the top of the podium.
Cherif Younousse will team up with new partner Julio Cesar Do Nascimento Junior with high hopes of giving Qatar consecutive gold medal wins at Kish Island. Their Asian neighbours Iran are also out to show a big fight with four teams playing in the main draw.
Markus Bockermann/Lars Fluggen of Germany and Piotr Kantor/Bartosz Losiak of Poland enter as top favorites in the competition with a wealth of experience and solid partnership.
Meanwhile, the United States’ John Mayer and Ryan Doherty resumed their partnership to compete for their first World Tour gold. Doherty flew to Kish Island fresh from the Fort Lauderdale Major, where he placed fourth with partner John Hyden.
The Round of 32 starts at 09.00 local time at the Kish Marine Recreational and Sports Complex.
