The seventh battle in the history of Iran and Iraq with the motive of becoming the leader
Iran’s national volleyball team will face Iraq for the seventh time in its history in its second match in the 2023 Asian Men’s Championship. In the previous six competitions, both teams won three games, and the result of the seventh match is essential for both teams with the motivation of being the top in the first group.
The 22nd Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship hosted by Urmia started on Saturday, August 19, and in the first day’s game of Group A, the Iraq team barely defeated Hong Kong.
Today (Monday, August 21) and on the third and last day of the group stage, Iran’s national volleyball team will line up against Iraq at 19:15, a team that has played against Iraq six times in history, three of which Iran won and three of which was taken by Iraq.
In the first three games in the history of the two teams in 1979, 1987, and 1989, Iraq won 3-2 and twice 3-1 respectively in the Asian Championship, but then in 2005 in the solidarity tournament of Islamic countries and twice in 2013 And 2017, in the Asian men’s championship, the Iranian team has won 3-0 in all three matches.
These two teams have never faced each other in matches hosted by Iran. Urmia will be the first match between the two teams sponsored by Iran. Our country’s national team will not have a hard time with the enthusiastic support of the fans who love volleyball.
