Tehran, Iran, June 8, 2017 – Uros kovacevic starred with 28 points as Serbia thrashed Argentina 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) in a lop-sided match in front of a rapturous Tehran home crowd bearing the love of Argentinean coach in heart on the opening night of week 2.
With the crowd firmly on the side of Argentina, it was Marko Podrascanin and Uros kovacevic that silenced the fans with a commanding display at the net.
Reigning champions Serbia (including Serbia and Montenegro) faced Argentina in the second week of World League 2017 for the 19th time with past 11 times victory for Serbia leaving seven losses record for Argentina.
In the first set, Serbia got to the first TTO sooner than Argentina in 8-6 and takes the lead by adding to the margin 16-11 in the second TTO. Good blocks of Podrascanin supported by the power spikes of Kovacevic brought Serbia to close the first set 25-18.
Argentina carrying the support of home crowd begins better in starting points but could not preserve the point as they came out of the court 8-5 for the first TTO. Argentina made a come-back as could reduce the gap in 16-15 for the second TTO but they lose concentration to leave Serbia to take the lead 2-0 with the second set-point 25-22.
The doors continued to be shut for Argentina as it does not take so long for Serbia to reach the first TTO 8-7 in the third set. Velasco were left with no strategy to guide his young players to overcome Serbia and gave up 25-23.
