Women’s WCH QT/ Timetable of Pool B Released
Bangkok, Thailand, September 1, 2017 – Hosts Thailand are gunning for one of the two slots up for grabs for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Japan 2018 Asian Qualifiers Pool B encounters at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Centre Gymnasium in Nakhon Pathom from September 20 to 24.
World No.10 South Korea, Asian silver medallists Thailand, DPR Korea, Vietnam and Iran will take part in the single round-robin competition, with only the two best-ranked teams making the cut for the next year’s World Championship Finals in Japan.
The press conference was held at Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok on Friday to announce host city Nakhon Pathom’s competition readiness ahead of the kickoff of the five-day contest on September 20. Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, president of the Thailand Volleyball Association, presided over the meeting.
Also attending were AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, Mr Prajaya Chaiyakam, managing director of Sport & Multimedia Business, Siam Inter Multimedia, Mr Warunthep Watcharaporn, marketing director, Bangkok Entertainment (Channel 3), Mr Supot Tumpracha, secretary-general of the Nakhon Pathom Sports Association, Mrs Thanthip Sirinupong, Thai Beverage’s vice president of External Affairs, and Thailand national women’s volleyball team, fresh from winning their 13th title at the South East Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Thailand made four appearances at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Finals. In 1998 in Japan, Thailand finished 15th place and four years later in Germany, they claimed a disappointing 20th position. In 2010 in Japan, they took the 13th place and at the 2014 world meet in Italy, they returned with the 17th position.
Meanwhile, the Rio Olympic gold medalists China, hosts Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Fiji will strut their stuff at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Asian Qualifiers Pool A clash, which will simultaneously take place in Kazakhstan from September 20 to 24. Only top two teams from this pool will make the cut for the next year’s Japan Finals.
